Behind the Curves

Behind The curves
Tanisha D.N. Frazier was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Paterson, NJ, where she currently resides. She was educated in the Paterson public school system up until high school. She attended Passaic County Technical Institute graduating with honors. She continued her education at William Paterson University of Wayne, NJ graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in management, and a minor in English, writing. Two years later another one of her dreams came true when she was inducted into Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  She is currently attending the Academy of Art University where she is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Fashion Merchandising.  Her current career goals are to seek out an Assistant Buyer position and continue modeling.

The Writer

At a young age she caught the writing bug and published her first poem, “Home” which was printed in an anthology with other young poets. Since then she has written articles driven towards the plus size community and fashion for magazine publications: Swaggakings, Fashion Frenzy Magazine, and Model Call Mag.  She’s currently working on her first poetry book, Eye Am Yours and short story The Velvet Box.

The Model

She became inspired to model because she wasn’t seeing curvy women depicted as they should be in the media.  She came to this realization while still in college, but an unfortunate experience with a company led her to wait until she finished college to pursue her modeling dream. She was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) around 2007 and symptoms of the condition caused her to second guess herself on whether the fashion industry was a genre she wanted to enter into.  In Jan of 2009, with her degree in tow she started her journey and pushed her insecurities aside and hasn’t looked back.  Since 2009 she has graced many runways, has been seen in various independently owned publications, editorials, and book covers.

The Dancer

She started her dance career by attending Dance World Academy for 2-3 years.  After dance world academy she was professionally taught in African Dance up until high school. Since high school she continues to dance liturgically at Christian Fellowship Center of Paterson, NJ, where she currently serves as the Dance Director of the CFC Dance Ministry.

The Mentor

She’s a youth leader at her church where she provides assistance with direct programs such as retreats, youth group and peer ministry.  Helps develop leadership skills in adults and youth and helps facilitate faith development.

The Visionary

She wants to help the plus size woman be able to walk into a major department store and pick up something off the rack, try it on, love it, and buy it. In finishing her degree she plans to intern either abroad or locally and then apply for an Assistant Buyer position and work her way up to Buyer. She will continue to model, build her brand, and become a business owner.
